Lawn Fawn "Get Well Soon" Card #1

Hello everyone!! I apologize for being so long away from my blog. I have missed it.

As I stated in my last post, I have had a difficult time fitting in time to create, time to blog, time to work out and also live my life since I started back to work this fall. To top it all off, I caught the ick that everyone has around school this week. It is rampant!! I am finally feeling a little better but still trying to get over the cough. Anyway, I did make some cards last week and thought I would share them with you.

Today I am sharing the first of three get well cards that I created using the Lawn Fawn "Get Well Soon" set. Hmm... As I am typing this, I am thinking that maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me that I was getting sick!!

I LOVE this little set. When I tried to order it the for the first time, it was sold out and I had to wait a month or so. It finally came in and I have been having fun making different cards with it.

Isn't this so cute? I originally created this for a retro sketch #131 entry but I never followed through on uploading it before the challenge ended. Here is the sketch that I was inspired by:

Instead of making a square card, I just made the focal point a square and then used patterned paper that contained squares. I replaced the sentiment banner with a word bubble.

I started by die cutting and stamping a bunch of the images from the set and coloring them with Copic markers. I then die cut the patterned paper and layered everything onto the card front.

The three stamped images I used foam adhesive to give them a little pop.

That was all there is to it. It sounds so easy but it took me longer then I am explaining. I love the way it came out, though.

I am entering this into the Catered Crop's "Get Well" challenge.

Thanks for looking!!

Winnie and Walter Challenge Day #1 and Day#3

Hello there!! I would like to say this week has flown by but I would be lying. Once I return to work, the weeks seem to go by slower and S-L-O-W-E-R. I also do not have as much time to create AND blog. I have to admit I did very little of either this week. I do not have time or the energy to do everything I want to in a day.

I did have time to make one card, though, for the Winnie and Walter August Release Challenge Day 3. It was to create a card using one stamp set. I have to admit that I started this card last weekend but didn't finish it until Thursday. I used Winnie and Walter's "Scenery: Big Bang Bling" stamp set to create the background for the sentiment block.

I started off by stamping the sequins in from the set in rainbow colors onto white card stock. To be honest, I started this process about 5 times using different techniques from drawing lines, to using the grids on my stamp blocks to get the sequins all lined up. Nothing worked to get it completely straight. (I should of used a stamp positioner but was too lazy!! I am more of a "by eye" kind of card maker.) This was the best of the bunch. I then die cut the sentiment out of the stamped block with a Simon Says Stamp "thanks" die cut.

Next I matted the stamped panel in black. I then die cut 6 more of the same sentiment out of white card stock and glued them together, the last layer being the stamped layer. I adhered the layered sentiment inside the panel. My last step was to use glossy accents across the "thanks."I set this panel aside to dry.

Next I die cut six banners out of scrap paper in the same color scheme and adhered them over a white card. I then used foam adhesive to adhere the stamped sentiment over the banners. The very last step was to take sequins in the colors I used on the card and layer them over the banners.

A few things I learned while making this card:

  • I need to make sure that I use enough adhesive when layer die cuts over each other to pop them up
  • glossy accents changes the color of ink and sometimes makes it bleed (especially if you are not using color fast ink!)
  • I need to use a stamp positioner to line things up when I stamp
I am entering this in the Winnie and Walter  & Simon Says Stamp Challenge #1 for the "Rainbow challenge" and Challenge #3 that uses one stamp set.

Thank you for stopping by. Have a great weekend!

Winnie and Walter Challenge Day 5: Sketch Challenge

Happy Monday!! The weekend is over and I am so very sad. Back to work again tomorrow.

Today I am sharing a card I created for the Winnie and Walter Sketch challenge.

For this challenge, you had to use a sketch, use a stamp set from Winnie and Walter and at least one Simon Says Stamp original product.

Since I only own one stamp set from Winnie and Walter, I used the "Big Bang Bling" set to stamp the sequins. Can I tell you how much I LOVE this stamp set? It is so fun to use!!

I used black ink to stamp the sequin outlines and then filled them in with five different types of Ranger Distress Ink. I then went in and stamped a few stars in Squeezed Lemonade ink from the SSS "My Stars" set.

I then misted the white card front with a citron mist spray.

While that was drying, I die cut the "happy" three times from teal card stock. I then glued the three die cuts together to give the word a little dimension. The "happy" looked a little flat and needed something so I applied "glossy accents" to the front to give it some shine.

This card was a bit of a stretch for me. I don't usually use this many colors on one card. I also had to add the banners to cover up a distress ink mistake. I actually like how it came out but think I would do the sentiment in a bit of a different way next time. It is fun to play around and step out of my comfort zone sometimes, though. Keeps me fresh!

Thank you for stopping by today. Have a great week!
