Playing along with My Favorite Things Sketch MFTWSC175 Challenge

Long time, no see. I have been happily crafting but not blogging. How I can blog regularly AND craft is a mystery to me. I don't seem to have time to do both and I need to craft for my blog content. The summer is coming so I know it will get better but I think I am going to need to start "scheduling" it in to my day. I have been doing that with working out and it has been going great so why not try with blogging?

Enough about that!! The real reason I am blogging today is to play along with My Favorite Things and their sketch challenge. The card below is what I created.

Here is MFT's sketch:
I stuck pretty close to the sketch but eliminated the two little pink embellishments that sit on each side of the oval focal point. I tried using brads, gems and even sequins but they just didn't look right. I made the executive decision to just leave them off.

I chose to use the My Favorite Things "Sunflower Sweetheart" stamp and die set to create the stamped images in the center of an MFT oval doily. The stamps are colored in with Copic Markers and layered on top of each other using foam adhesive to give them some dimension. I am not sure if you can see from the photo below but I also used Wink of Stella on the middles of the flowers to give them a bit of sparkle.

I created a frame around the layered stamps by die cutting the middle out of the doily. I then stitched it with jute twine. I like the way it came out but I think I would layer a couple die cut doilies on top of each other before I stitched to make it a bit sturdier. I could not pull the twine as tight as I would have liked.  At the end of the stitching, I tied a bow and added a button. I wasn't sure how I was going to adhere the frame to the card as the stitching stuck out from the back. I wound up using glue dots and they are holding well.

I hope you like my card. I love how it came out and intend to make more based on this sketch at a later date.

I am also entering this card into Virginia's "Stitched" Challenge. If you haven't ever been over to her blog, run! It is fantastic!!

I LOVE this new challenge blog and I chose to use this doily just so I could stitch around the edge!

Thank you for visiting. Have a great night!!

  5. Hello, Nora, aren't you a clever cookie or what!? Way to use the smaller holes from the diecut to stitch up the oval!! That extra touch with the bow and button is gorgeous! Do I like the card? I LOVE it! Thanks SEW much for playing Virginia's View Challenge!

  9. Oh my goodness, I really love your card! The colors are my kind of colors and I like that you chose jute to stitch with. I didn't even think of that, but I will definitely give that a go another time. This is definitely a card that makes me happy just looking at it!. P.S. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. Also, I totally get that about having enough time to craft AND blog?? I sometimes put too much pressure on myself, but most of the time lately I just tell myself to do what I can even if blog posts seem to be few and far between.

  12. This is such a bright and awesome card, Nora!! The stitching is fantastic! Well done!

I know what you mean about finding time to do it all and scheduling. I wish I could be self-disciplined enough to schedule working out. I THOUGHT about doing that, but I don't think that burns any calories, sadly! But you're right, if that worked for you, then scheduling the blog should too.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. You mentioned kicking yourself for not taking the watercolor class. I just wanted to let you know that it is never too late to register and take the class. Once you pay the $25 and register, the videos and downloads are available to you for a lifetime! It's really awesome and this class, in particular, is a great one that I would recommend. The link is on my blog or if you just Google "online watercolor card class" it should pop up and say simply "online card class.com." Once you get there, just click on the link for the watercolor class. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend! Hugs, Darnell
