MFT Sketch Challenge #236

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. This past week was a bit busy with a mess of doctors appointments. I try to do my major once a year visits in the summer because during the school year it is so hard to get there.

I have been trying to straighten up my craft room but I have to tell you, how do you purge? I just cannot do it. I see all these people put up their stuff for sale but every time I put a pile a side, I wind up taking one thing out, then another, and another...until nothing is left to give away. I do tend to use certain stamp sets over and over but then I go back and pull others out for sentiments that I like etc... I am lucky enough to have a whole room but I do not use the space to my advantage. Anyone want to come over and help me clean? What I put aside, you can take and then I won't be able to second guess myself!

Another thing I have been playing around with this week is my Zig watercolor markers. I can admit that I am NOT the best at using them and it will be a large learning curve for me. One of the images I used to color them with is from My Favorite Things "Penguins in Paradise" stamp set. I decided to use the image for MFT's Sketch Challenge #236.

I originally stamped a different image to paint but because I was impatient with drying time, the colors ran into each other and so I started painting this image instead. I used distress ink on the background to create a "sky" and some "sand" to make the penguin a bit more grounded.

I cut the image out with an MFT pierced circle die when everything was dry and put it aside. I then embossed and die cut a piece of PTI Hawaiian Shore's card stock and layered it onto a top folding A2 card that I created out of MFT Berrylicious card stock. Next I die cut a piece of white card stock and stamped a sentiment from the same stamp set. I adhered that into the middle of the card to match the placement from the sketch.

Next I adhered the banner that I cut out of patterned acetate. I thought the pink polka dots would look good with the penguins cheeks.

Using foam adhesive, I adhered the circle over the banner and then added the sequins. My last step was to cover the floaty in clear Wink of Stella and cover it with Glossy Accents. I think this penguin is so cute!!

I will continue to experiment with the Zig Clean markers, as well as pull out some of my other painting mediums to try. I have to admit that I am not great at "experimenting" though. I only get to spend so much time crafting and hate when my projects do not come out. Am I the only one?

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by my blog today. I hope you have a great night!!

  1. Nora....this is as sweet as can be! I just love your adorable little penguin. I ordered these babies too and have yet to ink them up. But your card is amazing and so full of wonderful inspiration! So happy to see you back in blogland too!

  2. Greetings Nora, oh yes the problem of the craft room supplies. I have had many of those days putting things aside that I really don't use.

Love the fabulous background, colors and of course the sweet little Penguin.

  3. I so hear you about experimenting time Nora! I only have so much time and I like to get an end result after my session to make having to clean up the mess worthwhile. I can see why you are reluctant to part with your stash, and if you are still making good use of it, why should you get rid of anything! I found that when I got rid of old patterned papers that I now didn't like and bits and pieces from my early scrapbooking days, I freed up quite a bit of space, but because I have limited storage available, I have to be a bit ruthless from time to time. It's like any purging - I hate going through it but feel so much better when it's done.
Now to your fabulous card which I love! That penguin is so cute and I think you coloured him beautifully. The whole design and colourway is pleasing to the eye and I LOVE your acetate banner.

    Hugs

  4. I think this looks really good!! The penguin is coloured very well and the card design goes well with the sentiment... (and that sentiment is so perfect for that penguin..) You're very talented, my friend! P.s. I have bought a few of those markers and I haven't touched them since I've read so many blogs how hard they are to use so you're not the only one you finds experimenting with these stressful.

  7. I am so with you - I seem to want EVERYTHING I take time to create to be stellar but let's be realistic, it is not!! I want the little time I spend in my room to be for creating not experimenting!! I want to already be good at things!! Oh, such is life and unrealistic expectations!! Your card has so much yummy texture and awesome dimension to it - your coloring looks fantastic for just "experimenting"!! I want to come and help you clean up your room - I just want to come and spend some time with you and I would help you!! But I would come away better for having spent some time with you!! Learning from you and crafting with you would be an honor!! Love your penguin card - I think he is so cute and adorable and I love this card!!!
