Teen Shopping and Card Making Using My Favorite Things Sketch 197

Happy Columbus Day!! It is good to have the day off, though it is gray and gloomy here.

I am always conflicted about this holiday because Columbus did not really "discover" America. However, I will take the day off and be happy about it.

This weekend was ho hum. I did a lot of shopping for Charlotte, with her and without her. If you have ever had a thirteen year old girl, you know how fun that was. For those of you who have not had the pleasure, it is about as enjoyable as having teeth pulled. My daughter is just starting to be "into" clothes and we do not agree on everything. I won the legging issue, though. She has decided that she will not be wearing them as pants, like everyone else does and something I dislike. Char felt they were too revealing for her. Score one for Mom!!

I am an 80's girl and guess what-we wore TIGHT leggings with LONG shirts/sweaters, not waist length tops. (Maybe this was just the way they wore them around here.) I just think they reveal a little too much the way they wear them today...and sometimes it reveals some things that should stay hidden!!! I am sounding WAY OLDER then I am but I do not necessarily want my 13 year old to let it all hang out, know what I mean?

Okay, off my soap box about teens clothes and onto the good stuff!! I was able to make a couple quick cards this weekend. I did not have a ton of time but they came together pretty quick because I used scraps and what was on my desk.

The one I am blogging about today I used My Favorite Things Sketch #197 as my inspiration. On a side note, I am a little obsessed with what MFT is releasing this month. If you haven't seen it, check it out at the MFT Blog. Click on the designers links for some really adorable projects. I really want almost everything but that is not in the cards right now. I really don't need it but I love playing with new stuff!!

Here is the card I created:

It is a whole lot of purple, I know. I actually created it for my niece's birthday and her favorite color just happens to be purple. My daughter was not too impressed because she thought it was a bit too much. However, if you are going to use it, why not go all in?

I started off by coloring in the cup cake tree from MFT's "Birdie Brown Sweet Birthday Wishes" stamp set with Copic markers. I used a Wink of Stella over the "frosting" and used Lilac Stickles for "sprinkles." I should have used a darker blend on the cup cake tops but I was kind of in a hurry to get this done for her party.

I then die cut patterned paper scraps using one of MFT's "Blueprints 15" Die and layered them over a piece of a PTI Royal Velvet card base. The banner was also cut with a MFT die and stamped with a sentiment from the same set as the cupcakes.

I then layered the stamped image over all the elements using foam adhesive.

The last step was to adhere three purple enamel dots to emphasize the sentiment.

My niece liked the card when she received it yesterday so I know it was a success.

I appreciate the time you took for stopping by. Have a fabulous day!!
