A CASE and a Technique New to Me

Is it Friday yet? Okay, I know it is only Tuesday but I am READY for Friday.

Char was home sick yesterday but since she is a teen, I left her home alone. (does help that I am LITERALLY two minutes up the street if she needs me.) Took her for a flu test but it was negative, thank goodness. She was extra ornery last night so I knew she would feel well enough to go to school today. Thank goodness. Missing more then one day of high school can be brutal with the make up work.

When Charlotte is feeling sick, we often sit around watching programs we have on DVR. Last night I made her watch a "The Internship" with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. At first she was saying how stupid it was but no matter how dumb the movie was, I love the two of these actors together. They just make laugh. She finally got into it and laughed right along with me. I think the movie is what made her feel better. (Not really but that is what I am telling her. They do say that laughter is the best medicine!!)

Enough about my night. The real purpose for posting today is to share a card I created. Like the post on Sunday, this was one of the "on my desk" challenges.

I originally stamped this front panel WEEKS ago when I took an online card class. The homework that day was to stamp a background stamp in white pigment ink, let it dry and then stamp over it. I chose to use an old Stampin Up! Crackle stamp as my background. I then stamped over it using the Paper Trey Ink stamp set "Filled with Joy." The overall design of where I stamped the flowers was a CASE from a card that I had on one of my Pinterest card boards. For the life of me, I cannot find the pin on my Pinterest Card board now to give credit. I really need to take a moment sometime and organize my pins!!

Anyway, I let the panel sit and never did anything with it. This weekend I used an MFT die to cut the panel down and mounted it on a piece of Hawaiian Shores card stock.

My last step was to randomly add some rhinestones around the sentiment. I very rarely make one layer cards but I am happy with how this came out. The crackle background is very subtle but you can see it in the photo above.

Well, that is all for now. Have a fabulous day!

A Day Late and a Dollar Short-Retro Sketch #154

I know I posted yesterday that I have had a hard time between creating and then having the time to blog it. This is one of those times. I made a card using Retro Sketch Challenge #154, photographed it and then did not blog about it. Now the challenge is over so I never was able to enter it. I hate when I do that!!

I figured I would post it anyway.

This card actually got me my mojo back. It has been a few weeks since I was able to sit down and be inspired to make anything.

Here is the inspiration sketch:

Instead of making a square card, I chose to make the design a square. However, the colors were NOT the inspiration for this card. I really, really wanted to use my new Paper Smooches "Roses" Wise Dies. I LOVE these flowers!!

So the first thing I did was die cut a rose and two leaves out some white paper. I then used an ink dauber with Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar distress ink to color the rose in and Hero Art's Shadow inks for the leaves.  I am not going to go into detail about the rest of the card because it is pretty simple. I will say that my last design decision was to cover the rose in Stickles to give the flower a little bit of punch.

Don't you think it would have been too plain without the sparkle? Don't answer that because it is too late to change it and I like it.

Have a fabulous Monday. Stay warm!

Cupcake Inspirations "Sparkle" Challenge

Happy Sunday! It seems like it has been FOREVER since I have blogged. My life has been busy and since I have had to choose whether to craft or to blog, the crafting has come first. How do you schedule it all in? Do you craft late at night? Do you blog a full week at once? Enquiring minds want to know!! Okay, maybe just my enquiring mind. The way other people do things always fascinates me.

It is snowing AGAIN here in Connecticut. What else is new? Actually, we had a full week without snow but had bitter temperatures. I will take that any day! My daughter wants a snow day tomorrow but I think she will be disappointed.

Today I am sharing a card I created for the Cupcake Inspiration Blog's "Sparkle" challenge. It is the 300th Challenge celebration so come on over and join them. It is also one of those self imposed "on my desk" challenges that I often make myself do. My desk is A MESS and making myself use the bits and pieces helps clean it up.

Here is the card I created:

Here is the Inspiration Image:

As soon as I saw this photo, I knew I was going to use my Paper Trey Ink "Baker's Dozen" cupcake image that was lying on my desk. The cupcake was stamped in Memento black ink and colored in using Copic markers. To give the image a bit of sparkle, I decided to add some gold Stickles.

While the Stickles were drying, I cut a piece of blue polka dot paper 5 1/2" by 4 1/4" (also lying on my desk) and adhered it to a white card that folded from the top. Next I used Paper Trey Ink's "Center Stage Cover plate" that I had previously die cut from white paper and adhered that over the blue.

I knew I wanted to use a glitter star die cut that I had bought from JoAnn's but it just did not look right against the background. I decided to use a white strip to break the background up. I embossed a line on the top and bottom and then stamped a sentiment. This was the only element that was not actually on my desk!

After adhering the white strip, I then used a liquid glue to adhere the chipboard star. I then used foam adhesive to adhere the cupcake over the star. I really LOVE the way this card came out!!

That is all for today. I appreciate you stopping by. Have a great night!!
