Turning Fifty and a Card for a few Challenges

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a FABULOUS Sunday.

This weekend has been eventful. On Friday I turned fifty.

I have to admit that this has not hit me well. I don't mind the wisdom that comes with age but I do not like the puffiness under the eyes, the crows feet or the forehead wrinkles. I can die the gray out but I cannot fix my slowing metabolism or how I want to still dress like I am younger than I am.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by my day this year because I knew my husband would not be home to celebrate it. My day started with cupcakes made by one of my co-workers and a rendition of Happy Birthday with a lap dance by one of my crazy friends. (She is a hoot!!)

I received a TON of texts and when I got home, I had an edible arrangement on my door step from my best friend.

I then went to get a pedicure and it was so relaxing!! My husband came home a bit early from his meeting and we had cake that he had made me the night before. So the moral of the story is, my birthday was so much better then I thought it would be. I don't know what the rest of the year will hold but the actual day was pretty darn good!!

Now on to why I am REALLY posting today. I created a card for a couple of challenges. My inspiration was the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches #375 and this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge-black/white/ and one other color.

Below is the card I created:

To be honest, this was NOT how I wanted this to turn out. I originally was going to keep the color scheme primarily white, with a touch of pink and black on the sentiment strip. HOWEVER, as things go, I messed the design up totally by adding the pink mist.

I was doing really well until I decided to actually spray it on rather then take the spray part on and use the bottom of it to "throw" it on my card like I usually do. Instead of throwing it away, I added some Tonic Clear Sparkle Marker over the top of the rose so it was visible.

Sometimes you have to make do with what you have so here it is!!

I appreciate you stopping by today. Have a GREAT night!!

Cute card! Happy Belated Birthday! Those cupcakes look amazing and almost make 50 look worth it. :) I may have "celebrated" the same birthday a couple months ago and have had many of the same feelings about it as you. Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches this week!

Well happy birthday to you, you young thing, you! The nice thing about being in your fifties, is that if someone says to you, "gosh! your eyes are puffy" you can slug them without the guilt that you'd normally carry if you were still in your forties! Just kidding..... Hope your birthday weekend continued to be filled with fun and family. Such a pretty card, too. I do love how it turned out, even if this version wasn't the 'planned' one. It's so pretty! Sending hugs. Bev

Happy Birthday, Nora! 50 looks amazing on you! I'm so glad your day turned out way better than you had planned. Those cupcakes look delish and so does your bouquet of fruit! I think your spritzed pink turned out beautifully. Cards rarely end up the way I think they will when I start.

A bit late, but sincere wishes for a wonderful 50! Not so bad to be 50... I turned 50 two years ago. Was hoping for gray hair instead of wrinkles because it's easier to take care of gray! LOL but I got the lines and wrinkles instead! Not to mention the slow metabolism :( Got to love the wisdom which comes with ago though :D
Happy birthday ♥

Happy Birthday. You look fabulous but I hear you. It was a few years ago for me - and I would add achy knees, stomach that can't handle all the foods that I've loved (or alcohol after dinner) and sleep issues!! Looks like you had a wonderful day with good friends and family!
