MUSE Challenge #133 and I want to be a Card Design Superstar!

Hello everyone!! I hope you all had as good a day as I have had. Nothing special happened but it was just a great day. The weather was perfect, work went well and one of my students told me I "always wear pretty clothes" and I had a fabulous kick butt work out at the gym!! It cannot get much better then that on a workday, let me tell you.

Today I am posting a card I created for the MUSE Challenge #133. The MUSE card was by Michele Ferguson, a designer I ADORE!! She makes the greatest cards and is the sweetest person to boot!!  Here is her card that was the inspiration piece.

Isn't is so pretty and romantic? I LOVED that patterned paper in the background and so I "attempted" to make something similar. Below is what I came up with.

I started off by stamping all my flowers in white and then used various pigment inks in different colors over them. It did not turn out as bright as I wanted but the effect was there. Then I did a bad thing. I got out my mist sprays in white, gold and green. I flicked the opposite end of the sprayer with the white and the green but not the gold. I sprayed a bit too much gold on it but because it took me so long to make, I decided to try to cover up my mistake and use it anyway. When you get lemons, you make lemonade!!

I put that aside to dry and then created my butterfly. I first stamped the butterfly and fussy cut it out. I then used my Zig Clean watercolor markers and watercolored the background in pale colors. I then used a bit of gold paint to give it some shine. I then layered a die cut vellum butterfly over it and wrapped the center with gold thread. All of these elements were thought out carefully because they were on Michelle's card.

I put the butterfly aside and started to assemble the card. First I adhered a piece of gold vellum over the card panel I stamped. Then I wrapped gold thread the vellum and adhered the decorated card front to an A2 top folding black card.

I then adhered the die cut sentiment and covered it in Wink of Stella. The last step was to adhere the butterfly.

This was a really different card for me to make and challenged me to the nth degree. It was fun to try to figure out how to do the background and though I didn't get everything "perfect," I think it came out pretty cool.

I am entering this card into the MUSE Challenge #133 and in My Favorite Things "You could be a Design Superstar!" contest. Most of stamps I used are from My Favorite Things, one of my favorite places to shop!!

I want to thank you for stopping by tonight. I hope you all have a  great day tomorrow!

NBUS, Runway Inspired Challenge #91, Virginia's View Challenge #18, Card Design Superstar, and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge-Use a Stamp

Happy Hump Day!! This week is FLYING by and I have had a great day. My work day flew by with no bumps, had a great work out and now am in my craft room. What more can I ask for a weekday?

Today I have created a card that I am entering into FIVE challenges. My original inspiration was for the Runway Inspired Challenge #91 and Virginia's View Challenge #18. In fact, they went hand in hand for my creation of the card below.

The color scheme was inspired by the Runway Challenge. Here is the inspiration piece by Michael Kors:

Not only did the color scheme inspire me but it went right along with Virginia's View Challenge to use a geometric as the star of the card.

Now I have had these triangle stamps from My Favorite Things for at least a year. It was one of those purchases that I was excited about and when I got them, I had buyers remorse. Don't get me wrong, I think they are cool but I do not make "graphic" cards. I knew they would be perfect for this challenge so I pulled them out and did a little experimenting.

The first thing I did was to use Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink and blended it onto a piece of white card stock. I then used the triangle stamps and RANDOMLY (and I cannot stress this enough!) stamped the shapes with black ink over the blended background. I should have taken a photo of the whole panel because it looked so cool but I just wanted to make the card and not worry about taking pictures.

I was originally going to try to use the whole panel but it was just too busy for me. Instead, I decided to cut it on a diagonal. I broke it up with a lot of white space on the bottom and a tiny strip of black below the stamped panel to kind of "pop" it.

I then stamped the sentiment. I used a bit of masking to stamp it in two different colors. It really helped that I had my MISTI because I would have never gotten that straight!! I then adhered three sequins to match the colors at the top around the sentiment. I then used Stickles in the same colors on top of the sequins. Easy peasy!!

I have enough of that stamped panel to make another card similar to this. I wanted to get this on the blog so I will be making that later.

I am also entering this into Darnell's NBUS challenge, since these triangle stamps were never used and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge-Use a Stamp.

Last but not least, I am entering this into My Favorite Things "You Could Be a Superstar" contest.

I am never one to enter these kind of contests because there are so many fabulous designers out there that I cannot live up to. However, I figured why not? You cannot win if you don't play so I am throwing my hat into the ring. It has made me look at my stamps in a totally new way!

I thank you for stopping by tonight. Have a great Thursday!!
