Our Day Trip to Vermont and Ghost Stamping with New Umbrella Craft Inks

Happy Thursday!! This week has gone by fast!! We have been out and about almost all week doing something. Monday we went to the Ben and Jerry's Factory in Waterbury, Vermont. They were making "Cherry Garcia" that day.

It was kind of hokey but neat at the same time. Plus, part of the tour is a free scoop of ice cream!! Charlotte and her cousin made tie dyed shirts too.

We were not allowed to take photos inside the factory part. I don't think the employees wanted to be in shots of tourists. I know I would not want to be in someones photo that I did not know! Char had fun tie-dying, though. It was cheaper then buying a ready made shirt!!

Her cousin, Sydney made one too!! I am glad they both wore aprons because this could have been a potential mess. Charlotte is not known for being "neat!"

Okay, now for my card. I was able to play with some new inks that Scrapbook.com has in stock. They are made by Umbrella Crafts. Below are the inks that I used to create the card. (Adding the green was an afterthought.)

Today I am showing you a "ghost" stamping card that I created. I used Umbrella Crafts white dye ink to do the "ghost" part of the stamping. In the past I used pigment ink so I was not sure how a white dye ink would work. In fact, it worked fine!!

First, I stamped a bunch of flowers in white dye ink on Kraft card stock with My Favorite Things "Build-able Blooms" stamp set.

When I first stamped it, the ink was a bit light but as the time went by, it darkened up. I really liked it because I did not have to heat set it. I could have put my finger across it and it would not smudge!!

I then stamped over the white with the orange ink, making sure the flower was off set a little so that the white would show up. I love this effect!!

I then added other flowers. One I used the white as the color and then stamped inside with others. After I looked at this panel, I  knew it needed something so I added some green leaves.

This is the card I wound up creating with that stamped panel. I die cut the kraft into a square and added scalloped green border and some green twine. I then used foam adhesive to mount this to an orange A2 top folding card that I scored every half inch.

I added the flower that I had stamped on white card stock and then die cut with the matching die. I then die cut a green leaf, mounted it on the kraft and then used foam adhesive to mount the flower over it.

My last two steps were to stamp the sentiment and add a little Glossy Accents and Wink of Stella in the middle of the white flower.

I really like these Umbrella Inks. They stamp really crisply. I LOVE the white especially. I have not tried it on darker paper but will be doing this in the future.

CAS(E) this Sketch #135 with Paper Trey Ink

Oh what a beautiful day it is outside!! The sun is shining, no humidity and a cool breeze. It is what I would refer to as a "perfect" day. Nice enough to have walked to the farmers market with a friend and get some yummy goodies from the garden.

It has been such a nice week too. Getting together with friends, sticking to my gym routine and getting time in my craft room. Win-win all around!!

Today I am playing with the CAS(E) this Sketch! blog. I used the "mess on my desk" to complete another card for my ongoing card set that I have been making. I only have one more card to finish, for a total of eight and it will be ready to go.

Here is my card:

I was so excited because I received my Paper Trey Ink order this week and my "Bowl of Sunshine" set of stamps and dies came. I had to use the oranges for this card.

As you can see, I did change it up a bit.

My border is a bit larger then the sketch and the sentiment is on top of the border rather then on the bottom. I originally was going to only have two rows of triangles but it looked funny with the circle. I decided to go with four rows. I still have quite a bit of quilt triangles left and could probably make a couple more cards out of it.

To continue with my "quilted" theme, I used my Die-namics to die cut the stitches onto my yellow background and a Paper Trey Ink circle die to die cut the circle. I could have actually stitched around the circle but was too lazy to do so. I also thought it might look funny because I had to cut off part of it to fit my design.

This was so fun and easy to put together. I ADORE this sketch!!

Pinterest Challenge

Happy Hump Day!! I hope you are all enjoying this Wednesday. Two more days until the weekend!!

Remember yesterday when I said that I went to book club on Monday night? We sat outside the whole time and apparently I was dinner for a lot of bugs. I did not realize it at the time but late last night, the itching began. This morning was even worse and huge welts appeared  up and down my legs. I made the mistake of taking a Benadryl and it has KNOCKED ME OUT pretty much all day. Don't you hate that? If I had taken it last night, though, it would kept me up. I wound up buying anti-itch medicine early this morning at CVS to use when the Benadryl wears off.

Today I am sharing my card that I created using my Zig Clean Markers. I was inspired by the new "Pinterest Inspired Challenge" blog. It was to use the pin below to create a project.

This is a new blog and I urge you to check it out. The design team made some stunning cards. Here is the card that I created:

I primarily chose the colors for my inspiration. I also attempted using this technique from the Simon Says Stamp Blog. Instead of using a Penny Black die, I used a My Favorite Things butterfly die to cut my "stencil."

I then used my Zig Clean Markers to paint in the butterfly. I chose to use greens and blues from the Pinterest image for the butterfly. I then accented it with Spiced Marmalade Distress ink that I watered down and painted onto the background.

I have to say that I had a difficult time using these watercolor markers. I am just not a natural at it. I tried to use light washes of color but somehow, it came out really dark. I do love how the watered down Distress Ink background came out, though.

After the image was dry, I die cut it using my brand new "Cross-Stitch Rectangle" dies from My Favorite Things. I adhered it on an angle to a Paper Trey Ink "Tropical Teal" A2 top folding card.

Next I cut a strip of black card stock, stamped and heat embossed a sentiment. I then adhered it to the front of the card using foam adhesive. My last step was to use a few sequins randomly around the card.

What I learned making this card:

• I need to be more patient when I use the Zig markers. Patience is NOT my strong suit!
• I also think that I would to better actually  "coloring in" an image then free handing it like I did with this stencil. 
• Detail is hard with watercolors unless you use the right brushes. I have them but was trying to use my water brush rather then get out a million different sizes of paint brushes.
• I tried two different kinds of paper to use with these markers. First was Bristol Board. No, it is not a watercolor paper so it did pill. However, I like the way the color layered on this better then the watercolor paper. 
• I used Ranger watercolor paper on this card but I am not a huge fan of it. I think it has too much tooth to it. I TRIED to buy true white watercolor paper (more expensive then the TWO kinds I already own!) but need to go to an art supply store I think. The ones I have are just too off.
