Teen Shopping and Card Making Using My Favorite Things Sketch 197

Happy Columbus Day!! It is good to have the day off, though it is gray and gloomy here.

I am always conflicted about this holiday because Columbus did not really "discover" America. However, I will take the day off and be happy about it.

This weekend was ho hum. I did a lot of shopping for Charlotte, with her and without her. If you have ever had a thirteen year old girl, you know how fun that was. For those of you who have not had the pleasure, it is about as enjoyable as having teeth pulled. My daughter is just starting to be "into" clothes and we do not agree on everything. I won the legging issue, though. She has decided that she will not be wearing them as pants, like everyone else does and something I dislike. Char felt they were too revealing for her. Score one for Mom!!

I am an 80's girl and guess what-we wore TIGHT leggings with LONG shirts/sweaters, not waist length tops. (Maybe this was just the way they wore them around here.) I just think they reveal a little too much the way they wear them today...and sometimes it reveals some things that should stay hidden!!! I am sounding WAY OLDER then I am but I do not necessarily want my 13 year old to let it all hang out, know what I mean?

Okay, off my soap box about teens clothes and onto the good stuff!! I was able to make a couple quick cards this weekend. I did not have a ton of time but they came together pretty quick because I used scraps and what was on my desk.

The one I am blogging about today I used My Favorite Things Sketch #197 as my inspiration. On a side note, I am a little obsessed with what MFT is releasing this month. If you haven't seen it, check it out at the MFT Blog. Click on the designers links for some really adorable projects. I really want almost everything but that is not in the cards right now. I really don't need it but I love playing with new stuff!!

Here is the card I created:

It is a whole lot of purple, I know. I actually created it for my niece's birthday and her favorite color just happens to be purple. My daughter was not too impressed because she thought it was a bit too much. However, if you are going to use it, why not go all in?

I started off by coloring in the cup cake tree from MFT's "Birdie Brown Sweet Birthday Wishes" stamp set with Copic markers. I used a Wink of Stella over the "frosting" and used Lilac Stickles for "sprinkles." I should have used a darker blend on the cup cake tops but I was kind of in a hurry to get this done for her party.

I then die cut patterned paper scraps using one of MFT's "Blueprints 15" Die and layered them over a piece of a PTI Royal Velvet card base. The banner was also cut with a MFT die and stamped with a sentiment from the same set as the cupcakes.

I then layered the stamped image over all the elements using foam adhesive.

The last step was to adhere three purple enamel dots to emphasize the sentiment.

My niece liked the card when she received it yesterday so I know it was a success.

I appreciate the time you took for stopping by. Have a fabulous day!!

The "Mess on my Desk" card #4

Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is having a fabulous week. It is almost time for a three day weekend and I cannot wait. I know, I know, I just started back to work but I am already tired!!

I used My Favorite Things set "Sweetheart Birdie Brown" to create this card.

I had die cut, stamped both the bird and Birdie, as well as colored each in using Copic marker's months ago. I did try to do a pleat technique on Birdie's dress but it was an epic fail. I just wound up making it blue. I did do a little cross hatching on her hat to make it look like straw. That part wasn't a failure!!

The first thing I did was trim a piece of patterned paper into a 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" rectangle. I inked the edges with Vintage Photo ink and adhered it to a white card base. Next I die cut and adhered a piece of yellow card stock over the pattered paper. I then die cut a fence out of a scrap of kraft card stock and adhered it to the middle of the yellow card stock.

Birdie and the bird where then adhered using foam adhesive. The sun was created by using a vellum flower with a die cut sentiment circle over it. Both were in my pile of stuff. The last touch was to use my clear Wink of Stella pen to put a little shine on the bird and into the middle of the sun flower.

After planning this card, it took me all of 15 minutes to put together. That includes the die cutting of the fence and card stock paper. It usually takes me two hours to make a card so I am happy!!

Thank you for stopping by. I really appreciate it. Have a great night!!

Sunday Sketch #228

Hello everyone!! Just a quick post. I created a card for the Sunday Sketch #228 challenge on The Sweetest Thing blog. I used My Favorite Things Birdie Brown "Every Day is a Picnic" stamp and die set.

Here is the sketch that I used for the project:

I had so much fun coloring Birdie with Copic Markers. I do need to get some re-inkers, though. Some of my colors are getting streaky!!

I tried a new technique to me for the top. I used three different colors-BG11, YG21 and YG23 to create an ombre effect.

I love how it came out and will be trying this with other color combinations in the future.  I duplicated the effect on the butterfly too. I just need to work on shading the pleats on her top. I did not even attempt it for this project as I have had difficulty in the past.

The background was created with an old Stampin Up! background stamp. I inked all around each of the patterned pieces. This is a technique I used to always use on my cards but had put it away for awhile. I like the look!

That is all for today. Thank you for taking the time to look!
