Paper Trey Ink 7th Anniversary, Day 9 Challenge…and a Snow Day!!

Good evening!! What a day we have had here. No school due to snow-which is almost up to ten inches. We would have gotten more but it turned to rain. We are due for more tonight and I really do not want school to be off tomorrow. It is a double edged sword working at a school. All these closing effect my paycheck!!

Late this afternoon I played along with Paper Trey Ink's 7th Anniversary Challenge, Day 9. It was called "Building Blocks" of Design Challenge. I had to go through each designers blog, use the sheet below that I downloaded from Nichole Heady's blog and random.org to pick my "blocks" of design.

I have to admit, this was rather challenging to me. I really wanted to cheat and pick my own materials and colors but I refused to let myself. Here is what I came up with:

I found that gold, pink and aqua are not the easiest colors to work with all together. I also didn't have a clue how I was going to use watercolors on it. I went through my re-inkers and only had a Harvest Gold and an Aqua Mist. I wound up stamping an ink pad on a splay mat and adding water to make my Raspberry Fizz "paint." I didn't load up the brush with a ton of water so there is more of a dry brushed look to it. I think I am going to try this technique on a full card next time.

I am hoping it is allowed but I did slightly deviate from the sketch a tiny bit. I tilted my banner rather then putting it on straight. I liked the way it looked better when I was playing with it then the way it was in the sketch.

I also had fun using one of my new Mama Elephant  "Basic Borders" stamps for my banner. I stamped first in aqua mist, then raspberry fizz and then the harvest gold. One end came out better then the other but I like how it looks.

I also added a bit of dimension on the card. I put a few layers of scrap card stock under three of the hearts and used foam adhesive on the heart block, as well as the banner. For something that was so difficult to me, I think it came out pretty good.

I thought I would also share two shots I took out my living room window today. You can see a bit of my reflection but I had to sneak this photo of Charlotte.

The only kinds of shots I can get of Char these days is of her back and I have to SNEAK every one. She won't let me take her picture. I guess it is the beauty of being thirteen!!.

That is all for tonight. Thank you for stopping by.

Monthly Moments Trading Card-Paper Trey Ink 7th Anniversary Challenge

I have been having fun lurking through all the Paper Trey Ink blogs for their anniversary festivities this week. Unfortunately today is the first day I get to really play. So disappointing because I LOVE their fun challenges during the month of February.

Today's challenge was to create a Monthly Moment's Trading card. These trading cards are 3" by 4" in size. I had a really, really hard time with this. I do not do Project Life, though I have used some of the products on some of my regular scrapbooking pages. I didn't really want to make a journaling card but rather something that was more decorative. I have been doing a lot of Valentine's so I wanted to stay away from pink or red and anything with hearts in it. So I chose a fall themed card instead.

I decided to use the PTI Polka Dot Pumpkin stamp set and die for this project and to keep it as simple as possible. I stamped the "pumpkin" sentiment using orange zest ink and then the label in new leaf. I then used Jillibean Soup alphabet stickers for the word "patch."

Next I die cut and then stamped the pumpkin, the stem and leaves. Next I decided to use a technique I have been seeing in cards as of late. I twisted some jute through a glue dot and then layered the pumpkin over the jute. Last, I placed Lawn Fawn Sequins around the card.

I am happy with the way it came out and I have to decide whether I want to enter it into the swap or not that they are having in their forum. I would love to send it to someone but would have to make another because I made a mistake on one side and turned it over to stamp on the other side. You can kind of see it in the first photo. I am cheap like that!!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great night!!
