Playing along with My Favorite Things Sketch MFTWSC175 Challenge

Long time, no see. I have been happily crafting but not blogging. How I can blog regularly AND craft is a mystery to me. I don't seem to have time to do both and I need to craft for my blog content. The summer is coming so I know it will get better but I think I am going to need to start "scheduling" it in to my day. I have been doing that with working out and it has been going great so why not try with blogging?

Enough about that!! The real reason I am blogging today is to play along with My Favorite Things and their sketch challenge. The card below is what I created.

Here is MFT's sketch:
I stuck pretty close to the sketch but eliminated the two little pink embellishments that sit on each side of the oval focal point. I tried using brads, gems and even sequins but they just didn't look right. I made the executive decision to just leave them off.

I chose to use the My Favorite Things "Sunflower Sweetheart" stamp and die set to create the stamped images in the center of an MFT oval doily. The stamps are colored in with Copic Markers and layered on top of each other using foam adhesive to give them some dimension. I am not sure if you can see from the photo below but I also used Wink of Stella on the middles of the flowers to give them a bit of sparkle.

I created a frame around the layered stamps by die cutting the middle out of the doily. I then stitched it with jute twine. I like the way it came out but I think I would layer a couple die cut doilies on top of each other before I stitched to make it a bit sturdier. I could not pull the twine as tight as I would have liked.  At the end of the stitching, I tied a bow and added a button. I wasn't sure how I was going to adhere the frame to the card as the stitching stuck out from the back. I wound up using glue dots and they are holding well.

I hope you like my card. I love how it came out and intend to make more based on this sketch at a later date.

I am also entering this card into Virginia's "Stitched" Challenge. If you haven't ever been over to her blog, run! It is fantastic!!

I LOVE this new challenge blog and I chose to use this doily just so I could stitch around the edge!

Thank you for visiting. Have a great night!!

A Little Mama Elephant...

Happy Tuesday!! I hope you are having a great start to your week. I have to admit I am just wanting it to be over as we have vacation off from school. Even if I don't do anything, just being off from work is fabulous to me. Sleeping in, working out, time in the craft room or just time to do the cleaning I want to do-it is heaven.

Today I wanted to share a card I created using Mama Elephant's "Pandamonium" stamp set. I love these little guys!!! I chose to use the two "kissing" Pandas on the card below.

I used Paper Trey Ink's Royal Velvet card stock, polka dot paper and the ink for this card. I am not sure why I used purple, as it is one of my least favorite colors but it suited these little guys.

I created the background using a mask. I cut a die cut a circle into a piece of printer paper, layered it over the square and inked with yellow and a little blue to make the "new moon." I then put the circle over the yellow and inked the purple/blue sky.

I then inked a PTI die two different greens for the little "hill" the Pandas are standing on. I then adhered the bears to the scene. I framed them with a slide stamp and die from Paper Trey Ink. I used foam adhesive to adhere it so it "pops" a little. I also used foam on one of the hearts, as well as some glossy accents to give the hearts a little more oomph. I think it was the perfect touch!!

The XO's were stamped using the Casual Fridays "Love Notes" stamp set. I selectively inked the stamp so only one X and one O showed up. The sequins were a last minute addition to cover a mistake I made. Whoops!!

That is all for today. Thank you for stopping by!! Have a great day!!

Simple Birthday Cards Using WPlus9 "Coming Up Roses" Stamp Set

Happy Doris Day day!! In honor of Doris Day's birthday, I am going to share some birthday cards.

Today I want to share with you two cards I created using WPlus9's "Coming Up Roses" stamp set.
I bought this set a couple weeks ago and was able to play a little this past weekend with it. It was so much fun!! I think this is going to be my new "go to" stamp set when I need a pretty card.

To start the process, I used the matching dies to cut roses and leaves out of heavy white card stock. I also die cut a vase out of tracing paper as I have misplaced a whole package of vellum. I am still flummoxed as to where I put it but tracing paper worked in a pinch.

I then stamped the rose stems, roses and the sentiment using Hero Arts and Paper Trey Ink's dye inks. Next I used a new technique that I learned in my Clean and Simple 3 Card class that I took a couple weeks ago. I used a Copic blender to lightly take some of the color off the ink to give it a more 3-D effect. Mine did not come out as well as the teacher's but since this is my first time utilizing this technique, I think I did pretty well.

My next step was to spray the card with silver and pink mist spray. I chose to use the mist as it was meant to be used AND also took the bottom out to "fling" more color in strategic places. I am a bit obsessed with mist spray at the moment and it has been used on a lot of my projects as of late.

Now it was time to assemble my card, which was easy peasy. I just took the roses and leaves I had die cut and stamped and layered them over the roses stamped on the card base with foam adhesive. To give the card even more pizazz, I adhered sequins in silver and pink to the front.

My second card is actually the first card I created. The only difference is that I didn't spray the mist spray on but flung it on using the actual mister taken out of the bottle. I also had to create a banner because my first attempt to stamp the sentiment ON the card went awry. (one reason I am not a one layer card girl-the sentiment is something I usually stamp last and something always goes wrong!!) I also only added one extra leaf rather then two.

Bonus Card:
I am going to include the third card I created using this set too in this post. It is much different then the other two cards I created and I have to admit it is not my own design. I copied it from one of the WPlus9 designers, Lea Lawson. Her work is stunning!! You could take hours going through her blog. Lea's card was a bit more elegant then mine but I needed to make a quick birthday card and this fit the bill.

Instead of using a cream card base, I used Lemon Yellow card stock from PTI. I then used yellow and white spritz on the card base. (The white is hard to see in the photo-I think I should have shaken the bottle up a bit more to get the pigment out too!) I stamped the two yellow sprigs of flowers at the top and the sentiment on the bottom. I wanted to make sure before I glued anything down that I didn't mess that up!

Next I layered the stamped die cuts to the left, wrapped ombre floss around the card and adhered a blue button. My last step was to scatter sequins across the top. It is not as clean as Lea's card but I like how it came out. This will be going out to my Aunt tomorrow. I might actually be getting a card out in time for someone's birthday for a change.

Well, that is all for now. Have a great day!!
