A Shaker Card

Today I had time to practice making a shaker card. As many of you know, I LOVE sequins but HATE making shaker cards. I thought today that I would try to get over my dislike of making them. I was going to use the FUSE tool that I have in a pile with other unopened supplies on my floor but I got nervous and just created one using the foam method.

Here is the card I created:

I know it is simple but it took me a darn long time!! I decided to use dies and patterned paper rather then stamping anything on this card.

The sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh. Aren't they pretty? They go perfectly with the polka dot paper!

I am not going to go through a step by step because there are tons of videos you can watch versus me putting things into words. Besides, I would not recommend anyone copying my method. I am great up until I have to put the back on. I wound up putting  a second piece of acetate in back of the butterfly to enclose the sequins. Then I adhered it to the pink paper.

Things I learned making this card:
  • I am still not a huge fan of this method of making shaker cards. I prefer creating "Faux" shakers where I glue the sequins down in strategic places.
  • I think that I am going to pull out my FUSE tool for the next shaker card I create.
  • I like the simple die cut filled with sequins in the middle. It can make a very dramatic effect on a card.
  • I need to practice using the adhesive on the foam. It was sticking to everything!
That is all for today. I thank you for stopping by and looking. Have a great night!!

Pretty Pink Posh Watercolor Blog Hop

Just a quick post on this Sunday night. I have been trying to make a card for Pretty Pink Posh's Watercolor blog hop all weekend. I cannot even tell you how many starts I have thrown away. I am defiantly going to practice with watercolor over my summer vacation.

Here is the very simple card that I finally crafted. It is not the most out of the box but it is what I finally accomplished after all else failed.

I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar and Squeezed Lemonade for the background. I used the smoosh technique to create it. I then let it dry and layered a bunch of dies from the mess on my desk on the front. The last step was to use a clear Wink of Stella pen on the front of the hearts.

If I had started with this technique instead of actually water coloring images or making a scene myself, I probably would have been done with this in a half hour!! I am just disappointed because I really wanted this card to be a little bit more creative then it wound up being. Oh well! I tried.

Once again, I am entering this into the Pretty Pink Posh watercolor blog hop.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Paper Trey Ink "Feather Finery" card

I had a whole day in my craft room on Sunday and had every intention of doing cards for various challenges. However, as I sat down to play, none of the current challenges inspired me to play with all the new supplies I had. I decided that since I don't get to make cards just for fun that often, I would experiment with some of these supplies and see what happens.

One of the first things I did was to make my own paper using a water color paper, a straw and some re-inkers. I apologize for not having a photo of the process but I was having too much fun with it to stop and take any. (I also got dizzy from all the blowing too!) I originally was going to use the paper as a background but due to an embossing error, I had to go to plan b.

I decided that this paper would make really pretty feathers. I decided to use Paper Trey Ink's "Feather Finery" stamps and dies on my paper. I cut the large and small feather out, then stamped each in Versamark ink and embossed both with gold embossing powder.

I really like how the large feather came out but the small one somehow got a bit smudged. Since it was the last of my paper, I had to just go with it. If only I could have found my embossing buddy. I put it somewhere so I would know where it was but could not find it!! Sometimes these things happen.

I layered the feathers on PTI Royal Velvet card stock, that was layered over gold vellum that I found in my stash. I so wish I could find more of this because I really like the look!! I embossed a sentiment from the "Feather Finery" stamp set in white and then layered gold sequins I bought from Pretty Pink Posh to finish the card off. (If you haven't been to her shop-it is awesome!!)

This was a really fun card to make and I will definitely be making more paper like this in the future.

Thank you for stopping by!! Have a wonderful day!
