Long time with no post and a Paper Trey Ink CASE

Hello everyone!! I am sorry I did not have any spectacular posts for you last week. I have had time to sit at my desk to play but my mojo is just not there. Don't you hate that? I have two half done cards sitting on my desk that I just cannot seem to find the energy to complete.

Instead of coming up with new ideas from scratch, I did a little CASEing of the Paper Trey Ink girls with some of the stamps that I own but have never inked. I decided to make a card set so I sat down and stamped a bunch of images from Paper Trey Ink's "A Second Helping of Sunshine" set and "Quilted Summer" set. For the next few days I will be sharing what I made using these fun stamps.

Today I am sharing two cards I created using this card by Ashley Newell (the second card in post) as the CASE. I loved her use of white space and the fun way she used the stamp set "A Second Helping of Sunshine" on this card. In my CASE, I pretty much copied the card in its entirety, using supplies that I had rather then copying everything exactly.

First, I chose to keep Ashley's white card base. I did not use the same colors as she did but used Paper Trey Ink's Melonberry, Lemon Custard, and WPlus9's Blossomsberry as the main colors for this card.

I did not have the stamp that she used for the background so I used one of the circles from My Favorite Things "Bokeh Builder" stamp set to stamp the Melonberry circles on the white card base.

I then die cut a white piece of paper using the My Favorite Things "Die-namics Inside and Out Diagonal Stitched Rectangle." I adhered the stamped images that I had created, the purple twine around the bottom and adhered this to the card front with foam adhesive.

My last step was to stamp and adhere the Melonberry banner and use glossy accents over the cherries. I also added a rhinestone in the middle of the scale for a fun touch. This was so fun to make and even better that I did not have to design it from scratch!!

My second card is almost exactly the same as the first card but I used different colors.

Instead of a white background, I used a Melonberry card base stamped with WPlus9's Blossomberry ink. I also stamped the scale directly onto the white die cut like Ashley did in her card. However, I stamped, die cut and adhered the scale markings with foam adhesive to give it a little pop.

Like the first card, I used glossy accents on the pears. I chose to keep the twine off this card so it was just a little different from the first.

So I guess the moral of the story-no mojo?-use CASEing as a way to get some cards done! It takes the guesswork out of the whole process and by using your own color scheme and a few design elements, you can make it your own.

I thank you for stopping by today. Enjoy the sunshine!

My Favorite Things Lesson #7: Complimentary Colors and Simon Says Stamp Work it Wednesday-July

This is my second post of the day so I will be quick. I created a card for my homework for the My Favorite Things Summer School.

I was to use complimentary colors. I chose yellow and purple, because of the feathers. I also did not do much stamping on this card because most of my stamps are line drawings and I was not in the mood to color anything.

I had created the paper for the feathers using Shaded Lilac and Dusty Concord Distress Ink ages ago. I die cut the feathers, as well as the purple and yellow card stock.

I then layered everything on the card, the stamped banner and the yellow enamel dots being the last step.

Totally simple and took me less time then my usual designs. Now my homework is DONE!! Yeah!!

I am also entering this into Simon Says Stamp Work it Wednesday-July.

The challenge was to use die cuts. Pretty much everything on my card is die cuts!!

I thank you for taking the time to stop by again today. Have a great night!!

My Favorite Things Summer School Lesson #10-Monochromatic

It is Thursday here in blog land. This week has flown by!! I have spent a lot of time in my craft room while Charlotte has been at camp. This is her last week and I know she is going to want to go places when she is stuck at home.

Here are a few photos of her for Throwback Thursday.

These are when she didn't mind her curly hair!! Now she wears it in a braid EVERY DAY.

Today I am showcasing a card that I created for My Favorite Things Summer School: Lesson 10-Monochromatic. These classes have been free on their blog and even though I "know" all this stuff, I like to refresh my design skills and create projects for the challenges to practice.

I am warning you that this post will be heavy on the photos today. I kind of took photos of the process, something I only do occasionally.

Here is my card. The color I chose to emphasize is blue, if you cannot tell.

I started off by smooshing watered down Distress Ink in Stormy Sky and Broken China onto a piece of watercolor paper. (Please excuse the mess on my desk-I have a few projects I have been working on this week and am still not quite done!!)

I wanted to do an inlaid die cut technique on the edge of the card so I used post it tape to back the edge of the paper where I was going to make the cut.

I then used My Favorite Things "Flutter of Butterflies" lace die to cut out a butterfly.

I then put MORE post it tape on the back and made sure all the little pieces were glued into place and would not fall out.

Next I took the panel and used watered down Distress Ink in the same colors I used before and splattered the front of the card. (I wish I had left the white space like it is on here. I like it a lot better!) When it dried, I stamped the sentiment. I am using this as a sympathy card.

I then adhered three different scraps of patterned paper on the edge of a white top folding A2 card. I used foam adhesive to adhere the butterfly panel to the card.

My last step was to cover the butterfly in clear Wink of Stella and adhere a few sequins randomly around the butterfly.

This was a fun card to do and I think I will be making a few more of these to have on hand. However, I will not be splattering "extra" ink on it. I think it would have looked better if I had left the white space. This is what "homework" in crafting is all about, though. Practice eventually makes perfect!!

I am entering this into the drawing at My Favorite Things Lesson #10 and for Simon Says Stamp Work it Wednesday Challenge-July, which was to use die cuts.

I think you for taking the time to stop by today. Have a wonderful night!
