Freshly Made Sketches #423

Happy Sunday everyone!!

Tonight I am popping in with a card I created using this weeks Freshly Made Sketches #423. I was planning on posting this during the afternoon but time got away from me!!

Here is the sketch that I used for the card:

I started off by masking off a circle and ink blending in yellow and orange distress ink.

I then spritzed a bit of water on top for the sky effect. I stamped Penny Black's Delicate Silhouette's stamps in black dye ink over my blended sky.

The sentiment is from a retired My Favorite Things stamp set that I heat embossed in white. I added a little heart covered with Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen in the sky because it just needed a little something.

This weekend has flown by and I so wanted to make so many more cards, as well as clean my craft room. I did neither, instead cleaning the kitchen a bit and doing mountains of laundry. Does time get away from you like that?

That is all from me tonight. I thank you for taking the time to stop by.

Have a FABULOUS night!!

Freshly Made Sketches #400

Happy Monday!! I hope you are all having a great morning.

I am popping in today to post a card for some challenges. I created a sympathy card for a wake I need to attend on Tuesday.

I used the Hello Bluebird Stitched Tag Builder Die set and MFT's Stitched Flower dies to create my card. I was inspired by this weeks Freshly Made Sketches #400 for my card and Clean and Simple Colours and Sketches Challenge as the inspiration for my card.

I had die cut all the flowers out of white and used ink to color the flowers in.

I scored the background to get the embossing for the background.

The sentiment is from Your Next Stamp's "WhatNot Sentiment" Set.

That is all from me today. Thank you for taking the time to stop by!! Have a great day!!

A Few Challenges

Hello everyone!! I hope you have all been doing well. This weekend has been so beautiful and I have been able to walk outside in short sleeves-which has been kind of exciting.

Haven't been here in a while. I have been watching technique videos and trying some new techniques, and revisiting old.

Today I have a couple of cards that I did for some challenges.

My first card I created for CASE this Sketch #316.

I actually flipped the sketch horizontally so the "triangle" was on the left, not the right.

Original and the flipped

I used Altenew's Beautiful Peony set to stamp a triangle and used an ink blender and an eye shadow brush to color the flowers in loosely with Distress Ink.

I created the sentiment on my computer because I did not have one this size to use.

I am also going to enter this into the Card Concept Challenge #112. I was inspired by the pink flowers.

My second card was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches #382. I used the same set up but tried a technique that is new to me-Alex Syberia's Dotted Coloring. I didn't have the correct markers so I tried Tombow markers. It didn't come out like hers but I don't hate it.

Here is the card:

I used Shaded Lilac Distress Oxide Ink for the background and the drips are from drawing with the markers on a craft mat and picking them up with a brush full of a water.

When I was done, I covered it with Nuvo Clear Glitter Marker. The sentiment was once again created on the computer. Sometimes it just easier than stamping!!

That is all for me today. I am off to have lunch with my friends to plan some activities we will be doing when we travel to Ireland in June. I so need a vacation!!

Have a FABULOUS day!!

A Couple of Challenges

Hey Peeps!! This is my second post for today. My first post was for a sneak peek of the NEW CAS-ual Fridays Huggable Critters Release. This post is to showcase a couple of cards I created yesterday for some challenges.

For my first card, I created a card for CASE this Sketch #314.

This is the sketch that inspired me is below and I am also entering this into the Flower Challenge #30: Anything Goes.

The beauty of this card was the flowers were already stamped and embossed and I didn't have to do much!! Am I the only one that makes "extras" when they do a project? I have so many that I challenged myself to use them on both my cards!!

The flowers are from Simon Says Stamp, the leaves are Paper Smooches. The background paper is from Bobunny's Harmony Collection that I just received from Scrapbook.com.

I used Nuvo Crystal Drops for the center of my flowers. The thing about not having to stamp things is that the card comes together so fast!!

For my second card, I used Freshly Made Sketches Sketch #380 as my jumping off point, as well as Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Challenge: CUTE and Seize the Birthday's: Anything Goes to create my card.

I had the most fun making this card because I went through all the little bits that I colored and have never used.

The little banners are from MFT's Blueprints 27 and I used a long paper strip that was in my scrap drawer.

I had to use a pencil and a ruler to line all the banners up, something I really do not like to do. I am a do-everything-by-eye type of person but for this card, you could not do that.

I then took the images and kind of played with where I wanted them. I adhered them over the banenrs using foam adhesive.

My last step was to use a Nuvo Crystal Clear Glitter Gloss pen over selective elements on each image and then cover that element with Glossy Accents.

I am SO HAPPY with how this card came out that I think I might make another one!!

I thank you all for taking the time to stop by. Have a FABULOUS day!!

Freshly Made Sketches #204, The Paper Players Challenge PP263, Zig Clean Markers and Lawn Fawn's "Happy Harvest" Set

What a beautiful day this Sunday is. The sky is so blue and the weather has just a touch of coolness to it. A perfect day to apple pick!! (I caution you-this post is a little heavy on the photos. I apologize but I just had to do it!!)

Chris, Charlotte and I took a drive to Lyman Orchards and picked Macoun apples, which are my favorite. We have numerous orchards in our town but I had heard good things about the shop Lyman has on their property and the rumors were true. We bought some pot pies for dinner tomorrow and some FRESH cider donuts.

Here are a few photos that Charlotte and I took at the orchards. I took the first and the last, Charlotte took the middle three.

Charlotte is taking a photography class in school and her subject this week was either to photograph a toy or leaves. She is not happy about either assignment but has chosen leaves. However, the leaves have not turned here yet. I suggested this photo because of the red and green against the blue.

Charlotte was trying to get the birds in flight in this photo!!

Here is where her camera broke so she had to borrow mine for the rest of the visit. She has my old DSLR and it really needs to be replaced. She does not like my lens, though!!

So today I am going to show you two cards I created using Lawn Fawn's "Happy Harvest" set.

I received a HUGE order from Scrapbook.com this week and this stamp/die set was just one of my many purchases. Shhh-do not tell Chris!!

I did something that I have not done before when making a card. I stamped the SAME image on two pieces of card stock and used my Zig Clean Clean Color Real Brush Markers to color them in. However, I did two different techniques using these markers.

For my first card, I am playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches Blog and using Sketch #204. I am kind of obsessed with sketches as of late. I can use my own supplies but the layout often jump starts my creative juices.

Here is the fun sketch I played with:

I am also entering my card into The Paper Players Clean and Simple Challenge-Create a Fall Scene. I think my card is perfect for this!!

Here is my card that I created:

For this card, I stamped the the pumpkins and the wagon using a lot of masking. I then colored them in with my Zig Clean Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I have been watching different ways to use the and one way is to color with them like a Copic. This is what I decided to do on this image.

After coloring, I masked off the stamped images and created a background with distress inks. I then stamped the corn stalks and the sentiment. Next I die cut the stamped scene and adhered it over a card base and a piece of patterned paper.

My last step was to stamp, die cut and adhere some leaves from the same stamp set.

On my second card, the scene is pretty similar. I did not use the sketch, though, but decided to layer my scene over some patterned paper rectangles.

I did all the same things with the masking and distress ink background BUT I used my Zig Clean Clean Color Real Brush Markers with water. I would color a bit of two colors on whatever I was painting and then blend it together. I think this gives the image a bit more dimension but painting takes longer then coloring!!!

I added a banner rather then stamping the sentiment directly on the scene and added a few more stamped leaves. I am not sure if you can see it or not but I also added some clear Wink of Stella onto the wagon to make it "shiny" like metal. Okay, it really IS NOT shiny like metal but that is what I was going for.

What I learned:
  • I like coloring better then using water with these markers. HOWEVER, I think that I would use them up really fast if I colored in images with them and you cannot refill these.
  • I think using the markers with water gives the image a bit more dimension then blending the colors without water.
  • It is VERY EASY to reactivate the colors when using water with the distress ink background!!! I did figure this but was not careful and had to "fix" some mistakes with more painting.
Okay-I am at the end!! If you made it to this point, thank you!! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by!!

Have a wonderful night!!

Freshly Made Sketches: Sketch #200

Happy Saturday!! I hope you are all enjoying your day off.

Today I am sharing two cards with you. First is a card I created was inspired by the sketch #200 from the Freshly Made Sketches blog. It is the blogs 200th celebration!!!

When I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to crack open the "Rolling Cloud Dies" from Taylored Expressions that I just received, as well as the rainbow die I had in my stash from My Favorite Things. I used white card stock for the clouds and scraps for the rainbow.

I adhered the die cuts over a white card base that I had blended Tumbled Glass Distress Ink on to make a "sky." I then stamped a sentiment by Paper Trey Ink in blue.

My last step was to give the card a little sparkle by adhering clear sequins randomly around the card.

I really like how this came out and have enough pieces of rainbow left over to make another rainbow card. I will have to mix up the colors but I think that would be okay.

Here is the sketch that I used for the card:

In other news, I wanted to share a few photos from the fun wedding I went to last weekend. A lot of my photos did not come out that well because of bad lighting so forgive me.

This is me and my husband Chris. I cannot believe I am actually posting this because as a rule, I hate photos of myself. I am really trying to be better about it, though.

This one is my brother, Chuck, and his wife, Marlene. They don't live near us so it was really nice to see them!!

My sister Jen, Chuck and I. I have another sister that did not attend the wedding. Who looks the oldest here?

I thank you for stopping by today. Enjoy your weekend!!
